Berlin, 13. June. Basefarm today announced their acquisition of the Berlin-based The unbelievable Machine Company (*um), the leading service provider for Big Data, cloud and managed cloud services in Germany and Austria.
With the acquisition, Basefarm extends their target market from the Nordics and the Netherlands to include Germany and Austria, thus becoming a leading European player. The combined business will have ~100m€ in revenues this year in addition to a wider service offering. Services will range from cloud hosting, security and managed services, to Big Data services, giving customers additional and more business oriented service options.
The acquisition is backed by ABRY Partners, a US private equity firm focused on investments in Media, Communications and Business & Information Services. ABRY Partners is the main shareholder of Basefarm.
*um will continue to work under its well-known brand name in Germany and Austria. Managing Director of *um, Ravin Mehta, will remain Country Manager Germany and Austria, and as such become a member of the Executive management team of Basefarm, as well as a major shareholder in Basefarm, going forward.
Fredrik Ohlsén, CEO of Basefarm says: “We are very happy to add The unbelievable Machine Company to the Basefarm family. *um has an extensive pool of experts within the fields of Cloud Computing and Big Data with solutions supporting customers on the strategic and analytical level linking to their business processes. We see a growing demand for these kind of services in our customer base. Just like at Basefarm, the *um team has focused on their customers’ success, as well as on the people at the center of the company’s development. This goes hand in hand with the Basefarm culture, so I believe this is a perfect match.
Ravin Mehta, Managing Director of The unbelievable Machine company says: “The new company will combine the Nordic area, the hottest data center market in the world, with Germany, Europe’s largest market and talent pool, to create a true European hybrid cloud provider. I am really excited to add extended markets for *um and that we will continue giving our customers top quality local service combined with a global infrastructure.”
